As cryptocurrencies rise in popularity, we must evaluate if they present a more or less ethical method of exchange compared to our current use of fiat currencies. Identifying and understanding the ethical challenges and strengths of both types of currencies is necessary to ensure that we create the most ethical economy possible. Central to this discussion is the ethical issues associated with decentralization and the inability for a state to effectively regulate it’s use. This research is intended to raise awareness and encourage further debate into the ethics of adopting cryptocurrencies instead of fiat currencies as the basis of our global economy.
